Swansea City’s head coach Luke Williams thinks his team’s performance in the loss at Middlesbrough was “completely unacceptable.” Swansea City was soundly thrashed on Teesside despite being second best in the crucial stages of the game.
Swansea had lost their previous three games as Emmanuel Latte Lath’s brace secured Boro all three points on Teesside.
It comes after their Easter Monday loss to QPR and their tie with Sheffield Wednesday.
Williams made it clear during his press conference following the game that this kind of behavior would not be accepted and that it must not be repeated. He also cited the efforts of the Jack Army, who made the long trip to the Riverside only to watch the away team put on a lackluster performance.
“We played in an unacceptable manner today,” he declared.
It lacked vigor and conviction, and it was wholly inappropriate. We give up two absurd goals, and we didn’t play well enough for our fans to be satisfied with what they saw.
“We had nothing at all. How often do we go near and mishandle or overhit a cross in the box? We have players in unmarked spots. It’s just carelessness; there isn’t enough attention or focus.
“We failed to show up. Consider the fans who have come this far, eager to witness their team play in this stadium, and we deliver that. It is utterly vicious. We are a large football team, just one league below the Premier League. What would be the purpose of playing football that way again? We cannot play it that way.
“It better be blood and thunder; we have to be better than that in the upcoming games.”
Josh Tymon was injured for Swansea in the first forty-five minutes, but the head coach is hoping the full-back’s recovery from the hit won’t take too long.
Williams continued, “Hopefully it is not a ligament injury or anything like this. I think it was a contact injury as he got kicked.”
“I hope he returns soon; he seems like a tough guy. We really miss this man while he’s off the field.
On Wednesday, Swansea will host Stoke City at the Swansea.com Stadium.
