The former Spurs scout feels that Bissouma and Sarr are a poor midfield combination and that they shouldn’t have started the game together against Forest.
Postecoglou made crucial changes in midfield during halftime in Tottenham’s 3-1 win against the Reds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (7 April).
Sarr and Bissouma were substituted for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur, a move that proved instrumental as Tottenham scored twice in the second half to secure victory after a lackluster first half in North London.
According to King, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Postecoglou’s decision to make adjustments at halftime was the right move.
“I was utterly surprised to see Bissouma and Sarr in the starting lineup. There seemed to be something lacking when those two were on the pitch together, perhaps a lack of energy. Bissouma attempted some shots, and they both put in a lot of effort, but the first half didn’t yield much action, and Spurs were losing control in midfield.”
“I was obviously hoping that at halftime, adjustments would be done.
“The game took a complete turnaround after the halftime break, and I believe it would have been a different story in the first half if Postecoglou had opted to start with Bentancur and Hojbjerg.
“In particular, Bentancur brings a level of skill that surpasses both Sarr and Bissouma combined, while Hojbjerg provides a solid defensive presence.”
Ange Postecoglou has a midfield decision to make when Tottenham travel to Newcastle United
Postecoglou and his team are gearing up for a challenging few weeks ahead.
Upcoming matches against Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool, along with the pending fixture against Manchester City, present a significant test for Postecoglou and his squad.
Following a lackluster first-half performance against Forest, where Spurs were fortunate not to face consequences, Postecoglou cannot afford another slow start, especially with tougher opponents on the horizon. Decision-making will be crucial as they aim to maintain their form against higher-quality opposition.
As the competition intensifies in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification, Postecoglou faces the imperative task of getting his team selection spot-on from the outset until the end of the season. This leaves him with significant strategic considerations to ponder.
In addition to these pressing matters, Postecoglou must address certain issues within the Tottenham squad. Specifically, there are concerns regarding the conduct or performance of a particular player who represents 50% of Spurs’ abilities.
