Newcastle United sent scouts to Stamford Bridge recently to check on Blues midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to Lee Ryder of The Chronicle.

Eddie Howe is rumored to be a longtime fan of the 24-year-old, and earlier this month, a club executive watched their 4-3 victory over Manchester United from the stands.

Gallagher is set to leave Chelsea this summer; the London team is poised to sell in order to help them avoid a potential FFP breach. Gallagher is on our shortlist of possible midfield targets.

One of Mauricio Pochettino’s best players this year has been the England international, but negotiations for a new contract have come to an end as his current one expires in the summer.

According to Lee Ryder, he could be available for a cost of over £40 million. He currently earns about £50,000 per week. Although Spurs and West Ham are also interested, Newcastle could offer him a big wage boost and he’d fit into Howe’s system well as a versatile No 8 who plays at a high intensity.
