Gibbs-White, 24, made a significant move to Forest in the summer of 2022 for a club-record fee of £42.5 million and earned the club’s Player of the Year award for his contributions last season.

He has continued to impress in the current campaign, tallying 12 goal involvements in the Premier League.

However, Gibbs-White’s tenure at Forest may be nearing its conclusion due to the club’s difficulties with PSR compliance.

Earlier this year, Forest incurred a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations. As a result, the club will be compelled to offload players during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Spurs could land Gibbs-White this summer

According to reports, two clubs vying for Gibbs-White are Newcastle and Spurs. Football Insider suggests that Forest will demand over £50 million before considering any offers for the 24-year-old.

Recent reports from the publication indicate that Spurs are leading the race to secure Gibbs-White’s services at the end of the season. Thanks to the Premier League’s PSR rules, Spurs are expected to have the financial flexibility to meet Forest’s asking price.

In contrast, Newcastle has been restricted by the Premier League’s regulations, only able to make one signing during the January transfer window, which was a youth player named Alfie Harrison. This limitation could affect their ability to compete with Spurs for Gibbs-White’s signature.

Gibbs-White is an “Ange Postecoglu player”.

It’s speculated that the club finishing higher in the Premier League standings will have priority in securing Gibbs-White’s signature. Currently, Spurs occupy fifth place, just three points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with a game in hand.

Spurs initially had a potential pathway to the Champions League through the UEFA Coefficient, but recent poor results have dimmed England’s chances in that race. As per current standings, the top four clubs will qualify for the Champions League, while the fifth-placed team will settle for the Europa League.

Newcastle and Spurs have previously competed for signatures, with Newcastle losing out in the battle for former Leicester attacking midfielder James Maddison. This history adds an interesting dimension to their pursuit of Gibbs-White.
