News about Nottingham Forest as the Premier League considers their next course of action after the loss to Everton and the fallout from the Reds’ contentious statement continues
Jamie Carragher thinks the Premier League and Football Association might need to take action against Nottingham Forest for their strong criticism of the PGMOL after their 2-0 Premier League loss to Everton. The Reds’ hopes of staying in the top flight took a significant hit on Sunday as Everton pulled four points ahead of them. The defeat leaves Nuno Espirito Santo’s team just one point above the relegation zone with four games left to play.
But if a few refereeing calls had gone their way, the game at Goodison Park might have ended in a another manner.
After the full-time whistle, the Reds were incensed by the decision and posted an angry statement on social media. They stated in their letter: “We just cannot tolerate three incredibly bad decisions and three punishments that were not imposed.
“Before the game, we informed the PGMOL that the VAR supports Luton, but they chose not to replace him. Many times, our patience has been put to the test. NFFC will now examine its alternatives.”
The comment has caused division in the football community, with Gary Neville calling on Mark Clattenburg to step down from his advisory position as the team’s referee analyst. Carragher is adamant that Forest’s remarks must be punished by the Premier League and the Football Association.
“I think the FA and the Premier League have got to come down really hard on Forest and stamp this out because as you (Neville) said there was something with Liverpool at the start of the season, something with Arsenal at Newcastle and it feels like it is building,” he said on Sky Sports.
“Clattenburg’s involvement at Forest is merely a ploy to exert some sort of pressure on officials.” This does not lessen the reality that Stuart Attwell and Anthony Taylor are having a very bad day.
“I think we try to avoid criticizing officials too much, but I don’t think it has been terrific this season. Numerous clubs face issues, but this must be stopped.
When it comes to those pleading with Webb to apologize, discussing “all options.” There are no other possibilities, and in light of that tweet, I do believe that Forest should be subject to a significant fine today.”
