Breaking News: Another veteran now set to add to Duke's squad

Four-star transfer to Tulane Sion James tells 247Sports that he has pledged to play for the Duke Blue Devils.

Four-star transfer Sion James from Tulane has committed to play for Jon Scheyer’s Duke Blue Devils and is removing his name from consideration for the 2024 NBA Draft, he told 247Sports.

James stated, “I chose Duke because it gives me a chance to compete under the brightest lights in college basketball and impact winning.” “I get to play with some of the best players in the nation and work with a talented, experienced staff that knows how to win games and develop players.”

This season, while playing for the Green Wave, the 6-foot-5, 210-pound shooting guard averaged 14.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 38.1% from three.

With one year remaining on his contract, James strengthens Duke’s backcourt with his size, strength, and quickness. He can make a number of contributions to the team and, in an increasingly senior college basketball world, brings experience to the club.

He is the ninth player added to Duke’s 2024–25 roster, which only has two returning players in Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster.

Scheyer has obviously chosen seasoned veterans in the gateway who offer a combination of two-way flexibility on both ends of the court, even with six rookies joining the team.

Big and strong, James is a guard who can finish at the rim, drive the lane, and draw fouls with his body in addition to hitting spot-threes.

James had 139 trips to the free throw line and a 51.4% field goal percentage in the previous campaign.

Cooper Flagg (No. 1), Khaman Maluach (No. 3), Isaiah Evans (No. 13), Kon Knueppel (No. 17), Patrick Ngongba II (No. 18), Darren Harris (No. 51), Mason Gillis (from Purdue), and Maliq Brown (from Syracuse) are all on Duke’s complete list of newcomers with James.
