Breaking News: Duke now lands Another sensational talent after injury riddled season

The Blue Devils formally added a new player to their backcourt.

Cameron Sheffield, a transfer from Rice, formally committed to the Duke basketball team on Thursday afternoon, adding another player to the team.

Sheffield had a 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction filed for the five-time National Champions on Wednesday afternoon, sparking rumors that he had committed to Duke.

Due to a foot injury that kept him out of action the previous season, the 6-foot-6 guard—who was unranked in the 247Sports transfer database—was granted a medical redshirt. Because to his COVID season, he will be eligible for two more years.

In his junior year, he shot 37.3 percent from three-point range and 44.0 percent from the field to average 7.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Over his tenure at Rice, he has participated in 95 games overall, starting 55 of them.

He has never participated in the NCAA Tournament, though.

Sheffield joins Purdue big Mason Gillis, guard Sion James of Tulane, and center Maliq Brown of Syracuse in Duke’s transfer class. There remains one scholarship left for the Blue Devils, but it is anticipated that no more key rotational players will be acquired.

Regarding a visit between Duke and Cameron Sheffield, there was no report. Actually, the only program that had expressed interest in the Georgia native was St. Louis.

Sheffield may have difficulty finding playing time this season considering his one-year absence from the game and Duke’s depth in the backcourt. The Blue Devils boast the nation’s top recruiting class in addition to two returning players in Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster.

Cameron Sheffield may be seen by Jon Scheyer and the coaching staff as a valuable depth player with two years left on his contract, even if he gets more playing time in the 2025–2026 season rather than this winter.
