Breaking: Another NFL super star now has his eye on for Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks’ roster appears to be largely set as they approach the start of obligatory minicamp in less than one month and the start of voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) in less than a week.

Bump and Stacy: 6 takeaways from Seattle Seahawks’ schedule

With the exception of offensive linemen Christian Haynes and Michael Jerrell, the Seahawks have signed six of their eight 2024 draft picks to contracts. Additionally, in order to further restructure their roster under first-year head coach Mike Macdonald, Seattle made a number of smaller free agency signings. As per Over The Cap, the Seahawks are down to just $1,343,214. It seems Seattle is simply unable of making any further moves with so little left. But NFL teams always manage to find a way to clear cap space in order to make the correct trade.

Do the Seahawks still have a chance to sign a free agent? During Blue 88 on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk on Thursday, former Seahawks quarterback Brock Huard mentioned a specific player.

Seattle Seahawks free agent target Justin Simmons...

“At safety, they have already contributed. Justin Simmons is a fantastic player, therefore this is probably not a good idea,” Huard remarked. “He is simply waiting for a lot more money, which is why he is still living on the streets,”

Although the Seahawks might not have the money Simmons is requesting, he would surely bring a dynamic presence to the back end of Seattle’s defense. Simmons amassed 30 interceptions throughout his eight seasons with the Denver Broncos, including a league-high six in 2022 while appearing in just 12 games. Additionally, during the last six seasons, he has intercepted three passes or more.

“He is such a stud,” Huard said. “He is such a rock on the back end.”

The Seahawks have one starting safety spot secured with returning Pro Bowler Julian Love. Rayshawn Jenkins is the leading candidate for the second starting position after signing a two-year, $12 million contract during the offseason. Jenkins has been an NFL starter for the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars. Additionally, returnee Coby Bryant and offseason addition K’Von Wallace will be competing for playing time at safety.

Huard mentioned that the most likely scenario for Simmons joining the Seahawks would be if the team suffers a significant injury at the position.

“Just keep an eye on Justin Simmons, man,” Huard said. “To me, he is the best player still out on the street waiting for a payday, waiting for an injury. Hope it doesn’t happen, but that dude can ball.”
