Paducah (Ky.) Tilghman safety Martels Carter Jr. (6-foot-0.5, 190) plans to announce his college commitment on May 25, he revealed to CatsPause.com. The Wildcats are believed to be one of his top choices, along with programs like Auburn and Clemson.
Carter has visited Lexington previously and shared his thoughts on the SEC program.
“I like that everything is centralized. You don’t have to run around to different places, which helps you manage your time better and focus on your craft. The convenience of walking to various facilities is a big plus. I’ve heard a lot of positive feedback from people I know. It seems like a great program that works well. [Barion says] it’s a good place to excel and shine,” Carter told CatsPause.com just before transferring from Chattanooga (Tenn.) Brainerd.
In his first season playing high school football in Kentucky, Martels Carter Jr. made a significant impact. He caught 43 passes for 1,066 yards and 10 touchdowns, and also rushed for 214 yards and 3 touchdowns on offense. On defense, the Tennessee native recorded 44 tackles and 3 interceptions. Additionally, he excelled on special teams, scoring six times (five punt returns for touchdowns and one kickoff return for a touchdown).
This spring, Carter was visited at his school by tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow, as well as head coach Mark Stoops. He also has personal connections with wide receiver Barion Brown and quarterback Cutter Boley, having trained together with NPA.
Carter is rated .9274 on a scale of 1.000 by the 247Sports Composite, ranking him as the nation’s No. 16 safety and the No. 194 prospect overall.
