The Buffalo Bills have signed WR to a one-year, $4.5 million contract, according to reports.

The Buffalo Bills have signed WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year, $4.5 million contract, according to reports.

“MVS” departs Buffalo’s arch rival to assist Josh Allen in taking that next step this season.

Following a visit on Monday night and Tuesday morning, the Buffalo Bills refused to let former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling leave the facility. The Bills signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million, including a $1.125 million signing bonus, according to several reports.

The full contract facts can be seen here, and Buffalo employed incentives to reduce Valdes-Scantling’s cap charge.

This move comes roughly three weeks after the 2024 NFL Draft, when Buffalo selected wide receiver Keon Coleman with the first choice in the second round. After drafting Coleman, “MVS” joins wide receivers Curtis Samuel and Khalil Shakir, as well as tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, to form a major pass-catching unit for quarterback Josh Allen to work with this season.

Valdes-Scantling has recently caught the attention of Buffalo Bills supporters, specifically Bruce Nolan (@BruceExclusive on X), who named him in a “top remaining free agents” essay, emphasizing his experienced presence and ability to stretch the field outside.

The 29-year-old NC State and USF product spent the first four seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers, who took him in the fifth round of the 2018 draft. His statistics may not wow the average fan, but his ability to stretch the field is legitimate, as seen by his career average of 17.0 yards per reception. He nearly surpassed 700 yards in 2022 with Kansas City, with 42 receptions and two touchdowns, but he had a subpar year in 2023 (21-315-1), which should encourage him to produce more meaningfully in Buffalo.

He isn’t going to come in and surprise everyone at 29 years old, but he has caught some tough throws against the Bills in prior seasons. It can’t hurt to give Allen a whole different look on offense, with many receivers capable of stretching the field at any time.
