OG Anunoby and the New York Knicks finalized a five-year, $212.5 million contract on Wednesday, just days after he declined the final year of his previous deal. The contract details were disclosed by The Athletic and ESPN shortly before the NBA draft began. Despite the Knicks’ recent acquisition of Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets, Anunoby opted to remain with the team.
Previously signing a four-year, $72 million contract with the Toronto Raptors in 2020, Anunoby had a player option for the 2024-25 season, which he forewent to secure this substantial new agreement. His impact on the Knicks was evident, as the team posted a 20-3 record in games he played after his trade from Toronto, where RJ Barrett was sent in exchange. However, Anunoby’s availability has been hindered by health issues, missing a total of 76 games over the past three seasons, including during Toronto’s 2019 NBA title run due to an emergency appendectomy. Anunoby, who turns 27 next month, averaged 14.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game last season across 50 regular-season games split between the Raptors and Knicks.
During the 2024 playoffs, Anunoby played a critical role in the Knicks’ victories over the Philadelphia 76ers before battling through a hamstring injury during the tough seven-game series against the Indiana Pacers. Throughout his NBA career spanning 418 games, Anunoby has maintained averages of 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
