Breaking News: Caitlin Clark back in front of rookie of the year race after triple double

The Indiana Fever’s superstar recorded the first triple-double by a WNBA rookie ever on Saturday, leading her team to an upset victory over the league-leading New York Liberty at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Clark had an impressive stat line of 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds in the 83-78 win. Another contender for the award, Angel Reese, also showcased her skills.

“Fun was had with the girls,” Clark posted on Instagram, sharing celebratory photos from the game.

The 22-year-old also posted a photo with teammate Katie Lou Samuelson on the court and another of her signing autographs for fans, including jerseys, basketballs, posters, and signs.

Clark had narrowly missed a triple-double in a previous game, falling one rebound short in an 88-82 win over the Phoenix Mercury last Sunday.

“Obviously, it’s really cool,” Clark told reporters on Saturday. “My teammates have been finishing the ball at a high rate, which has contributed to my assist numbers.”

Indiana, starting 2-9, has turned their season around with a 7-4 run, now contending for a playoff spot ranked third in the Eastern Conference and seventh overall in the league.

“Caitlin with a triple-double, my gosh, that’s incredible,” Fever coach Christie Side remarked after the win. “Holding New York to 16 points in the fourth quarter was huge for us. They’re the No. 1 team in the league.”
