The Miami Heat signed guard Zyon Pullin to an Exhibit 10 contract on Monday, creating a path for the young guard to join Miami’s G League affiliate. This move ensures that Pullin, who was previously on a two-way deal during the Summer League, will remain within the Heat organization and cannot be signed away by another team. According to Heat insider Ira Winderman, this type of contract likely includes some guaranteed money and a direct assignment to the G League.
Pullin, an undrafted guard from Florida, initially signed a two-way deal with the Heat for the Summer League but was waived in late July to make room for former first-round pick Josh Christopher. Christopher’s standout performance in the Summer League, where he played a significant role in Miami winning the title in Las Vegas, led to his signing.
Despite being waived, Pullin now has another opportunity to impress the Heat’s coaching staff and front office. This Exhibit 10 contract allows him to participate in the team’s training camp and potentially earn a more permanent spot with the franchise either in the 2024-25 season or in future seasons if a roster spot opens up.
During his one season at Florida in the 2023-24 season, Pullin averaged 15.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 44.4 percent from the field and 44.9 percent from beyond the arc. These impressive numbers followed his earlier collegiate career at the University of California, Riverside, where he was a two-time All-Big West selection before transferring to Florida and earning an All-SEC selection.
The Heat have a history of identifying and developing undrafted talent into valuable contributors for their rotation. Pullin could potentially follow in the footsteps of players like Gabe Vincent, who also played in the Big West Conference and went on to play a key role in Miami’s run to the NBA Finals in the 2022-23 season before signing a major contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Miami hopes that Pullin can similarly prove his worth on his Exhibit 10 contract and eventually secure a place on their roster as a contributing player. For now, his most likely path is through the G League, where he will continue to develop and showcase his skills.
