Vikings Promote Bobby McCain and Myles Gaskin to Active Roster for Jets Game

The Minnesota Vikings have elevated safety Bobby McCain and running back Myles Gaskin from their practice squad to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Myles Gaskin was recently released from the active roster earlier this week but was quickly re-signed to the practice squad. Gaskin originally started the season on the practice squad, earning promotions for the first two games of the season before being added to the active roster on September 18. This activation will be his last for the season.

So far, Gaskin has had limited playing time this season, recording just one carry for a loss of 3 yards. He’s seen action on two offensive snaps and 20 special teams plays.

Vikings Sign Defensive Back Bobby McCain

Safety Bobby McCain, a veteran in his 10th NFL season, also returns to the active roster. McCain previously played in Week 1 against the New York Giants, where he participated in three defensive snaps and 12 special teams plays. Over his career, McCain has been a reliable presence, playing in 132 games with 87 starts. His career stats include 394 tackles, 11 interceptions, four sacks, and 45 pass breakups.

Myles Gaskin’s immediate future will largely depend on his performance and the needs of the Minnesota Vikings. Since this is his last allowed elevation from the practice squad for the 2024 season, he can’t be promoted again without a permanent move to the active roster. His next move could go in one of a few directions:

1. **Stay on the Active Roster**: If Gaskin performs well in his upcoming opportunities, the Vikings may choose to keep him on the active roster for the rest of the season. This would provide him more chances to contribute, either as a running back or on special teams.

2. **Return to the Practice Squad**: If the Vikings decide they don’t need him on the active roster beyond the next game or two, they could waive him, and if he clears waivers, re-sign him to the practice squad. However, they would not be able to elevate him again unless they formally promote him to the active roster.

3. **Join Another Team**: There is also the possibility that another NFL team in need of a running back could claim Gaskin off waivers, especially if he shows promise during his current stint. His experience and versatility might attract other teams, leading him to a fresh opportunity elsewhere.

Ultimately, Gaskin’s next move will hinge on his ability to prove his value in the limited playing time he’s given, both on offense and special teams.
