Saints Encouraged to Target a Quarterback in 2025 NFL Draft

The New Orleans Saints face critical decisions in the upcoming NFL offseason, particularly at the quarterback position. Their current starter, Derek Carr, raises questions about whether he is the long-term solution for the franchise or if the team should shift its focus toward a younger, more dynamic player.

If the season ended today, the Saints would hold the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, with potential losses in their remaining games, they could move up in the draft order, potentially securing a higher selection. Landing a top-tier quarterback, though, likely requires trading into the top five or even top three spots.

Given this situation, many have suggested that the Saints prioritize a quarterback in the upcoming draft. Among the names being floated is Shedeur Sanders, the standout signal-caller for the Colorado Buffaloes and son of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. Bleacher Report has highlighted Sanders as an excellent fit for the Saints, citing his potential alongside offensive stars Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, and Rashid Shaheed.

Deion Sanders has expressed interest in ensuring his son finds the right NFL situation. In a recent interview with FS1’s Speak, the elder Sanders mentioned he would intervene if Shedeur appeared headed to an unfavorable environment. This caveat could play a significant role in whether the Saints emerge as a suitable destination.

Shedeur Sanders’ performance during the 2024 college football season has been exceptional. He has completed 73.4% of his passes for 3,488 yards, 30 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while adding four rushing scores. Known for his elite arm talent and confident demeanor, Sanders could provide the Saints with the leadership and playmaking ability they need for a brighter future.

Rumors are bound to swirl around New Orleans in the coming months. While landing Sanders is far from guaranteed, the Saints should explore every opportunity to secure him. If successful, they would add a dynamic quarterback to help redefine their franchise for years to come.
