The Green Bay Packers have lost linebacker Jamin Davis to the Minnesota Vikings, ending his brief stint with the team. Davis, previously signed to the Packers’ practice squad, brought intrigue due to his athleticism and potential as a pass-rusher but never got a chance to play for Green Bay.

According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the Vikings claimed Davis from Green Bay’s practice squad ahead of Week 13 of the NFL season. This move continues a trend of the Vikings acquiring players with ties to the Packers, including former practice squad members and free agents.

Davis, 25, was the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. While he has shown flashes of talent, his career has been hampered by inconsistency. In 50 career NFL games, Davis has recorded 282 tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception, and six passes defended. These statistics highlight his potential to be a valuable linebacker, though he has yet to consistently deliver at a high level.

When Green Bay initially added Davis to their practice squad, some fans were optimistic about his athletic upside and ability to contribute to the team’s defense. However, it appears the Packers were not confident he could make an immediate impact, leading to his departure.

For the Vikings, Davis represents a low-risk, high-reward signing. If they can help him tap into his talent, he could become a key defensive piece. Green Bay fans, however, will undoubtedly hope that Minnesota is unsuccessful in developing the linebacker’s potential.

While this is not a blockbuster move, it officially closes the door on Davis contributing to the Packers for the remainder of the season. Whether this decision will come back to haunt Green Bay remains to be seen, but losing a player with untapped upside to a division rival is never ideal. As the Packers focus on finishing the season strong, fans will keep an eye on Davis’s progress with the Vikings.
