Dallas Cowboys Add Veteran Tight End to Bolster Roster Before Thanksgiving

The Dallas Cowboys have officially announced the addition of another experienced free agent to their squad ahead of the Thanksgiving games, reinforcing their roster with depth and versatility. Tight end Noah Fant returned to the Cowboys’ practice squad on Monday, as confirmed by the NFL’s official transaction log.

Fant was elevated from the practice squad for the second consecutive week during Dallas’ Week 12 matchup against the Washington Commanders. However, unlike the previous week, he did not participate in any offensive snaps during the team’s dominant victory. Instead, Fant contributed significantly on special teams, playing 25 snaps and making a notable play by downing a punt in the fourth quarter.

Despite his efforts, Fant remains behind other tight ends on the depth chart, including rookies Luke Schoonmaker and Brevyn Spann-Ford. The Cowboys are also without starting tight end Jake Ferguson, who is sidelined due to a concussion. Ferguson’s absence has created an opportunity for others to step up, but Fant’s role has primarily been limited to special teams rather than offensive contributions.

The signing highlights the Cowboys’ proactive approach to maintaining roster flexibility as they prepare for a critical stretch of games. With Thanksgiving traditionally marking an important time in the NFL calendar, the team’s focus on bolstering depth is a strategic move to ensure readiness for any unexpected scenarios, particularly in key positions like tight end.

Fant’s experience and versatility offer value, especially in a season where injuries can quickly reshape a team’s lineup. While he has yet to see significant offensive involvement, his presence provides insurance and stability as the Cowboys continue their playoff push.

As Dallas heads into the latter part of the season, the team’s ability to adapt and reinforce its roster will play a crucial role in sustaining momentum. With Fant contributing on special teams and the potential for increased involvement in the offense, the Cowboys remain focused on solidifying their lineup for the challenges ahead.
