Five-star quarterback Peyton Falzone announced Wednesday that he is decommitting from Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound junior from Nazareth, Pennsylvania, had been committed to the Hokies since June but has now chosen to reopen his recruitment.
Falzone cited deep reflection and discussions with his family as the primary reasons for his decision. In a statement posted on X, he expressed gratitude for the Virginia Tech coaching staff and community. “From day one, my family and I were treated with love and respect by the entire staff at Virginia Tech. I am deeply thankful to coach [Brent] Pry, coach [Tyler] Bowen, and everyone in the Hokie family who believed in me and supported my development,” he wrote. Despite his respect for the program, Falzone felt it was necessary to step back and fully explore his options. “It didn’t feel right to be visiting other schools while being locked in with Virginia Tech. I owe it to myself, my family, and the schools recruiting me to be fully invested in every opportunity.”
Falzone has been actively exploring other programs, recently visiting Ohio State and Penn State, with additional visits to Iowa and Syracuse planned for this week. A highly sought-after prospect, he is ranked as the No. 15 quarterback and No. 181 overall player in the 2025 class by On3.com’s composite rankings.
Penn State has emerged as a strong contender in his recruitment, partly due to his familiarity with the program. Falzone noted a longstanding connection between his high school and Penn State, with former Nazareth players Jahan Dotson and Jake Wilson having played there. “I’ve been to Penn State games growing up,” Falzone told On3.com. “It’s always an awesome experience in Beaver Stadium.”
Falzone had an impressive junior season, throwing for 2,136 yards and 23 touchdowns while adding 743 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. Alongside offers from Virginia Tech and Penn State, he has received interest from Wisconsin, Syracuse, Bucknell, and Lehigh.
As he reopens his recruitment, Falzone is focused on growth. “This new chapter is an opportunity to grow,” he said. “I’m looking forward to working hard this offseason to continue developing as a quarterback, teammate, and leader.”
