The Las Vegas Raiders used an unidentified weapon against the Kansas City Chiefs despite their Black Friday defeat. It was difficult for a strong Chiefs defense to hold a little-known running back who had previously been undrafted.
Even the reigning champs were unaware of the kind of impact Sincere McCormick might make. But knowing what he was capable of, McCormick himself walked into Arrowhead Stadium. According to the Raiders website, the surprise running back gave reporters his thoughts on his breakout performance on Thursday.
“Be ready so you don’t have to get ready,” goes the saying. “McCormick said.” “I practice as if I were playing the game every time I go to practice.”
On Sundays, McCormick rehearsed while Zamir White, Ameer Abdullah, and Alexander Mattison handled handoffs. However, when the injuries mounted in the backfield, McCormick was promoted. The result of McCormick’s mindset was a 64-yard, 12-carry night.
“It was simple to transfer that mindset I have during practice to the game because I was already doing it,” McCormick said.
During his voyage, McCormick was waived, made a comeback to the practice squad, and even spent a brief period of time on injured reserve in 2022.
Raiders HC Antonio Pierce reveals if new weapon was beyond ready
This season, Antonio Pierce has had to play with a diminished running back unit. Fortunately for “A.P.,” he had access to another weapon in the backfield. Prior to each game, Pierce himself witnessed McCormick’s diligence.
“What we saw every day in practice is what you’re seeing on gamedays, Sundays, and Fridays from last week,” Pierce stated. “A guy who hits the hole, runs hard, runs tough, has good vision, and is decisive.”
Pierce and his new running back option have one thing in common. California’s Long Beach is where McCormick was born. Pierce led Long Beach Poly High as a coach in the city. Pierce adds that the first defender in front of McCormick has a hard time.
Pierce stated, “The fact that the first guy is not tackling him at the moment has been crucial for us in the run game because he is not being tackled by that first defender.” “So, he’s taking advantage of his chance.”
By the way, opponents will see the 5-foot-9, 205-pounder again after Black Friday.
Pierce boldly declared, “He’ll keep getting opportunities.”
