MLB rumors: Possible Dodgers-Cardinals Nolan Arenado trade gets Chris Taylor twist

Will Nolan Arenado be acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers? Whether the St. Louis Cardinals will even deal the outstanding third baseman If a trade were to happen, the Cardinals would almost certainly have to pay a portion of Arenado’s contract. However, the Cardinals might be interested if a prospective suitor added a player with a high contract. They would be taking on another potentially costly contract, but they would not have to pay as much of Arenado’s salary.

It should be mentioned that, absent a strong 2025 season, neither the Dodgers nor any other team will probably pick up Taylor’s $12 million club option for 2026.is the first question. The financial aspect will play a role because Arenado is expected to earn a substantial sum of money until the 2027 season.
Buster Olney of ESPN said on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday, “Rival executives say that if the Cardinals are going to move Nolan Arenado, who is owed $64 million, they expect St. Louis would have to either eat some salary or take on a contract a trade partner wants to move.” According to his contract, Chris Taylor owes $17 million. There appears to be a middle ground if LAD wants him.

Nolan Arenado, Chris Taylor looking for bounce-back seasons as Dodgers-Cardinals trade rumors swirl

The 34-year-old versatile Taylor had a terrible 2024 season at the plate. In 87 games, he only had a.202/.298/.300 slash. Additionally, he only hit four home runs.
By no means did Arenado have his best season in 2024 either. In 152 games, the 33-year-old hit.272/.325/.394. 16 home runs were added by him. His expectations were not met by the eight-time All-Star.

However, if the Cardinals decide to make Arenado available for trade, he will attract interest. Arenado is one of the top defensive third basemen in the entire sport in addition to having a high offensive ceiling.

In a prospective trade, the Dodgers might include Taylor with a few promising prospects. However, it’s unclear if LA is actually interested in purchasing Arenado.
