Sad News: Auburn Tiger Highly Rated 5-Star QB Officially Enter Transfer Portal

Auburn Backup QB  Reportedly Plans to Transfer

Auburn football’s quarterback situation has grown increasingly critical, as backup Hank Brown is reportedly preparing to enter the transfer portal. This development follows the earlier departures of quarterbacks Payton Thorne and Holden Geriner, intensifying Auburn’s need for reinforcements at the position.

The news was initially reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Sunday, with earlier rumors surfacing on Dec. 1. On3 first revealed Brown’s potential transfer plans, but the quarterback took to social media to deny the claims, stating, “All reports of me entering the transfer portal are not true. I have not entered the portal. Love y’all! War Damn Eagle.”

At the time of his statement, Brown could not have officially entered the transfer portal, as it does not open until Dec. 9. However, if Brown ultimately decides to leave, Auburn will be left with only two scholarship quarterbacks on its roster. This situation would heighten the Tigers’ urgency to secure at least one transfer quarterback for the upcoming season.

Head coach Hugh Freeze emphasized the need for depth during signing day, stating Auburn aims to have four scholarship quarterbacks on its roster next season. Currently, true freshman Deuce Knight and redshirt freshman Walker White are the only scholarship quarterbacks remaining. To meet Freeze’s target, Auburn would need to acquire two quarterbacks through the transfer portal.

Brown’s departure, if confirmed, adds another layer of complexity to Auburn’s offseason plans. The Tigers are now under pressure to identify and sign talented quarterbacks capable of stepping into a critical role in the team’s offense. With the transfer portal officially opening on Dec. 9, Auburn’s coaching staff will need to act swiftly to address their depth concerns and stabilize the position ahead of the 2024 season.

This latest development highlights the fluid and unpredictable nature of college football’s transfer portal era, leaving Auburn fans anxiously awaiting the next steps in the Tigers’ roster overhaul.
