Done Deal: Just In Brent Pry Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Experienced SEC 5-Star Superstar

Virginia Tech football is quickly gaining momentum in the transfer portal, with a trio of commitments announced on Friday, significantly boosting the Hokies’ roster for the 2025 season. After a slow start to portal activity, head coach Brent Pry is now seeing an influx of talent to fill key positions.

The portal officially opened on December 9, and while several Virginia Tech players entered and committed elsewhere, the Hokies initially took time to secure incoming transfers. The first breakthrough came Wednesday night when Clemson safety Sherrod Covil Jr., a Virginia native, committed to Virginia Tech for his final year of eligibility.

On Friday, the Hokies landed three more commitments, beginning with Bowling Green running back Terion Stewart early in the afternoon. Later, Pry added two more transfers: Hampton defensive tackle Jahzari Priester and Central Missouri running back Marcellous Hawkins.

Priester, standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 294 pounds, has three years of eligibility remaining. Despite being relatively new to football—he started playing only during his senior year of high school—he appeared in 11 games for Hampton this season, logging one start and 168 snaps. While Priester is still developing, he adds valuable depth to Virginia Tech’s defensive tackle rotation.

Hawkins brings proven production to the Hokies’ backfield. Although he played just three games for Central Missouri this season, his 2023 campaign showcased his potential. The Oklahoma native rushed for over 1,000 yards on 157 carries, scoring 18 touchdowns and averaging an impressive 6.7 yards per carry. Alongside Stewart, Hawkins enhances Virginia Tech’s running back depth with experience and versatility for 2025.

The addition of these three transfers marks a productive week for Virginia Tech as Pry focuses on building a competitive roster. With Covil strengthening the secondary, Priester adding size to the defensive line, and Stewart and Hawkins bolstering the ground game, the Hokies are addressing key needs as they prepare for the upcoming season.
