Kansas Jayhawks have secured another addition from the transfer portal with the commitment of defensive end Caleb Redd, who is transferring from Kentucky. Redd, a freshman during the 2024 season, brings four years of eligibility to Kansas, further strengthening the team’s defensive lineup.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 230 pounds, Redd played sparingly in his freshman year with the Wildcats. He appeared in two games, debuting against Ohio with four snaps and later contributing eight snaps against Murray State, during which he recorded one tackle. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Redd did not participate on special teams during his time at Kentucky.
Kansas’ prior connection with Redd played a significant role in his decision. The Jayhawks had extended an offer to him during his high school years, becoming the first Power 4 program to do so. This early relationship, combined with familiarity with KU defensive ends coach Taiwo Onatolu and St. Louis area recruiter Terrence Samuel, helped pave the way for his commitment. Out of high school, Redd had a long list of suitors, including Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC, and Wisconsin, eventually choosing Kentucky over double-digit Power 4 offers.
Redd was a three-star prospect coming out of high school and was ranked as the No. 63 edge rusher in the 2024 recruiting class by 247Sports. He also held the No. 18 spot among Missouri prospects. The 247Sports Composite, which averages industry rankings, placed him at No. 849 nationally, No. 57 among edge players, and No. 12 in Missouri.
With Redd’s commitment, Kansas now projects to have seven scholarship defensive ends on its 2024 roster. This group includes Dean Miller, Dylan Brooks, Bai Jobe, Dak Brinkley, Adrian Holley, and Garrett Martin. Redd’s addition bolsters KU’s depth and potential at the defensive end position, providing the Jayhawks with another promising talent for the upcoming seasons.
