Official Commanders News: Commanders Confirm On The Verge Of Signing $96 Million Pro Bowl

Commanders Encouraged to Target $96 Million Pro Bowl WR

The Washington Commanders are experiencing their most thrilling regular season in two decades, driven by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, first-year head coach Dan Quinn, and a team that has outperformed expectations. With a 10-5 record and holding onto the final NFC playoff spot, optimism is running high for the franchise. Regardless of how the season concludes, hope is likely to carry into a pivotal offseason for the Commanders.

Armed with an estimated $101.3 million in salary cap space for 2025, the Commanders are positioned as a prime destination for top free agents, thanks in part to Daniels’ potential as a franchise quarterback. Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder suggests Washington should consider pursuing free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs, currently recovering from a torn ACL sustained in Week 8 of the 2024 season.

Diggs played the 2024 season with the Houston Texans on a one-year, $22.25 million contract. Despite his injury, his resume as a seven-time 1,000-yard receiver makes him an attractive option. Holder emphasizes the Commanders’ need to bolster their receiving corps, especially with five wideouts, including Noah Brown and Dyami Brown, set to enter free agency. Pairing Diggs with star receiver Terry McLaurin could provide Daniels with another elite target, while Diggs might be enticed by the opportunity to return to the D.C./Maryland area where he grew up and played for the University of Maryland.

Despite the injury, Diggs is expected to be fully healthy for the 2025 season, marking his first major setback in a decade-long career. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report notes that a short-term “prove-it” deal could make Diggs one of the offseason’s best bargains. Before his injury, Diggs recorded 47 receptions, 496 yards, and three touchdowns in eight games, remaining on track for another 1,000-yard season.

However, potential chemistry concerns could deter some teams. Diggs has previously clashed with teammates and organizations, forcing trades from both Minnesota and Buffalo. While his stint in Houston appeared drama-free, his history might raise concerns for a team like the Commanders, who are building around a young leader in Daniels. Maintaining a harmonious locker room may weigh heavily in their decision.
