The owners of Newcastle United have made significant fresh investments in the football team.
Mike Ashley sold the team to the Newcastle United owners exactly 23 months ago.
After more than 14 years of ambition-free ownership, in which Mike Ashley did all in his power to enrich himself and his retail enterprise at the expense of the football club, Ashley will finally cease to be the club’s owner on October 7, 2021.
Newcastle United’s current owners paid £305 million to purchase the club.
However, successive cash infusions—the most recent of which was made public on Thursday, September 7, 2023—have increased the club’s total investment to more over £570 million.
With the Newcastle United owners giving the football team a new significant cash injection of £60 million, official confirmation is now close at hand.
Currently, the following is visible on the Companies House website:
Before they formally declare it in a statement, the club always discloses further investment in this manner.
The proprietors of Newcastle United are legally required to submit the information to Companies House.
Since the first takeover in October 2021, any additional investment amount made into the club has been subject to this condition, as shown in the table below.
The sources of the £570 million plus number are as follows:
Mike Ashley received £305 million from the new Newcastle United owners on October 7, 2021.
On November 9, 2021, the new Newcastle United owners will have contributed an additional £38.5 million to the organization.
On January 24, 2022, the new Newcastle United owners poured a further £40.0 million into the organization.
On October 26, 2022, Newcastle United’s owners will have contributed an additional £70.4 million to the team.
10 February 2023 – £57.0 million – This extra sum was contributed to the organization by the Newcastle United owners.
The Newcastle United owners contributed a further £60 million on August 22, 2023 (Companies House provides the precise dates (as noted above) when the transactions took place).
These six numbers add up to £570.9 million.
So, after paying Mike Ashley £305 million initially, the new owners of Newcastle United have now invested an additional £265.9 million in their business venture.
The additional £60 million invested in Newcastle United will be used for day-to-day operating expenses and, of course, to invest in fresh signings as the team continues to play catch-up.
