Adriana Leon, a forward for Manchester United, has officially signed a two-year deal with Aston Villa.
The Villans’ official club press statement from this afternoon alerted FAWSL Full-Time of the news.
Leon leaves Manchester United after one season and joins Aston Villa. She agreed to a two-year contract with The Red Devils last summer and scored one goal in five Barclays Women’s Super League appearances. The Canadian international struggled to get into Marc Skinner’s team’s regular games, so in April she signed a short-term loan deal with Portland Thorns of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
The attacker is looking for regular football and will be hoping to find it while playing for her new team, Aston Villa.
“Adriana is someone we’ve monitored over the last 18 months and is someone who has displayed great pedigree in the Barclays WSL,” head coach Carla Ward remarked after obtaining Leon’s services for Aston Villa.
“She can play both sides and will give our growing group a new perspective.
We are all excited to work with her and are thrilled that she has pledged her future to us.
Leon is now Aston Villa’s eighth new acquisition in the summer hiring period.
The head coach of Aston Villa, Carla Ward, said after acquiring Leon’s services, “Adriana is someone we’ve studied over the previous 18 months and is someone who has demonstrated tremendous pedigree in the Barclays WSL.
She is a versatile player who will provide our growing group a new perspective.
We’re thrilled that she has given us her future, and we’re all looking forward to working with her.
The seventh newcomer for Aston Villa during the summer transfer window is Leon.
