Callum Wilson told Sky Sports after scoring his fourth goal of the season in Sunday’s 8-0 triumph over Sheffield United that he should’ve had three of four. It summed up his preoccupation with scoring goals, even after the club’s biggest away win in history!
Since the game, I’ve compiled four fantastic facts that demonstrate exactly how good our number nine has been, solidifying his position as our best striker since the great Alan Shearer, in my opinion:
For Newcastle, Callum Wilson holds the second greatest goals-per-minute record (134 minutes per goal). Only Andy Cole (121 minutes per goal) has done better in Premier League history.
Only Erling Haaland (43) and Harry Kane (30) have scored more Premier League goals since the start of last season than Callum Wilson (22).
This season, Callum Wilson has scored a league goal every 82 minutes on average. That outperforms Haaland, Mbappe, Osimhen, Kane, Salah, Benzema, and Lewandowski.
With 42 goals, Callum Wilson has become the club’s fifth highest scorer in Premier League history. With five more goals, he will surpass Andy Cole (43), Shola Ameobi (43) and Peter Beardsley (46).
Not only does he score goals, but he also runs the channels and is a real handful for Premier League center-backs, thanks to his power, movement, and street smarts.
"I wouldn't be able to explain it myself to be honest!"

He may have lost a yard of pace, but he has improved in certain parts of his game, has an elite attitude, and has always scored goals, whether it was in relegation battles under Steve Bruce or in European competitions under Eddie Howe.
With a new contract signed earlier this month, the 31-year-old is maturing like a great wine and benefiting from the competition Alexander Isak has brought to our assault. Long may it last!
