West Brom were far too good for Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday and dismantled their hosts 4-0
West Bromwich Albion demolished Preston North End’s perfect home record and inflicted a particularly heavy first defeat of the season on the Lilywhites at soggy Deepdale on Saturday, in what can only be described as one of the best all-round performances of Carlos Corberan’s reign – and in general, away from home, for years.
Darnell Furlong and Alex Mowatt fired goals in the first half, before Matt Phillips and Kyle Bartley added further strikes in the second. The goals, the clean sheet and the three points were truly well deserved.
The 2000 fans behind the goal were olé-ing, demanding more goals from a side whose collective confidence levels were visibly soaring. A tremendous day out for the supporters, and a serious message sent to the Championship. Here is what the Preston supporters made of Albion’s performance.
Cragtek : On this evidence WBA should be right up there come the end of the season. Say what you want, Corberan has set them up brilliantly against us.
Thracia : WBA fully deserve the 4.
Shabbagaz : Credit to West Brom of course as they were superb and should be up there.
Lee Cartwright: Bad day at the office against a Baggies team on it from the start. Some quality players in that team and they will be challengers if they can click like they did today
wld : They saw our weakness defensively wide and played on it superbly. We did absolutely nothing to at least try and stop them preying on our weak point. Our only tactic was to launch it to their giant centre halves. Beyond bad. Better team. Better players. Better management team. Most importantly I suppose better budget.
nigelscamelcoat : Thought West Brom were premier league class in completely snuffing us out every time we got the ball. Did a total job on us in that respect. Not the best team we’ve seen this year on the ball but easily good enough today, even though at least 2 goals were down to defensive errors.
Doyler : West Brom were class. Reminded me of the game last season at their place. Just completely dominated from the first whistle. Their manager is a top tactician.
Tugg Speedman: Credit to West Brom, their manager made 5 changes and it worked for him. Thought they were excellent and fully deserved the win. That said, they had nothing to beat today, because we were pathetic from start to finish.
Paolo Poggi: I’ll give some credit to WBA for an outstanding performance at Deepdale today. They really did wipe the floor with the North End team, and didn’t allow them a sniff for large periods. Swift and their right winger were untouchable and North End’s players bounced off their giant opponents. North End were comprehensively beaten today.
