West Brom man now set to undergo scan in another new injury scare

After a 3-1 loss to Birmingham, West Brom’s John Swift is scheduled to have a scan.
According to the Express & Star, West Brom midfielder John Swift will have a scan after being substituted with a calf injury in their 3-1 loss to Birmingham City on Friday, October 6.

The Baggies are waiting to assess how serious the muscular ailment is, according to the UK news site (7 October), after he limped out of Friday’s derby defeat at St Andrew’s.

After West Brom took control via Swift early in the first half, the hosts scored three goals without reply, including an embarrassing penalty conceded by Cedric Kipre after he was adjudged to have fouled Koji Miyoshi when he looked to slip.
Corberan revealed after the game that he does not know how long the injury will last, but the Baggies’ leading scorer is likely to get a scan in another potential fresh injury blow after Josh Maja was ruled out until mid-November and Jeremy Sarmiento was ruled out until after the international break.

West Brom

Huge blow if out

The international break comes at an important time for the Baggies in terms of Swift’s injury recuperation, as it would be a massive setback if he had to miss time with the calf injury.
The 28-year-old maestro has been flawless this season, scoring six goals and assisting one in eleven games, particularly at a time when Corberan is lacking options and a clinical edge in attack.
Losing Swift’s inventiveness, ingenuity, and brilliance in the final third will be like losing an arm and a leg for West Brom, and Corberan will be crossing his fingers and arms that his injury isn’t too bad.

After Friday’s result, the Baggies can surely feel badly done by. After Swift’s opener, they were in complete control until the referee controversially adjudged Kipre to have fouled Miyoshi, who appeared to have slid instead.

While the international break comes at a good time for Swift’s injury, it comes at a bad time for the club as a whole, as they will be anxious to avenge their derby day setback.

As a result, some of their playoff competitors now have a good chance to get ahead of them in the table. Consider how bad things may go if Swift is forced to miss months of action.
