Newcastle United star ‘hopeful’ about future amid contract revelation

A hitherto undisclosed clause in Fabian Schar’s contract may result in the defender extending his stay at Newcastle United beyond 2025. Even though his current contract with Newcastle United is set to end after this season, there’s a possibility that the in-form defender might remain with the team.

Swiss media has revealed the existence of a clause in the 31-year-old’s contract, allowing for a one-year extension, which would see him stay until 2025. It appears that this is precisely what Schar desires. While on international duty, Schar told Blick that Newcastle feels like his “second home,” and his only criticism of the city is its weather.

Schar stated, “Newcastle is my second home. The team, the coach, the club – I feel very comfortable. I really enjoy it, and I hope that this journey continues.”

Previously, it was believed that Schar’s contract would expire in 2024, but this newly revealed clause could keep him at the club until 2025 without the need for negotiations.

The 31-year-old remains a crucial part of Eddie Howe’s defense, which achieved 13 clean sheets last season. He also scored an impressive goal in Newcastle’s 4-1 victory over PSG, a moment that left the head coach in awe. Howe remarked, “It’s not a typical center-back’s finish; it’s a finish you’d expect from a center-forward. But he has the technical ability to produce breathtaking moments; he’s just that good.”

Following the contract extensions for Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn, reports suggest that negotiations have now shifted to Joelinton. The 27-year-old joined St James’ Park from Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga for £40 million in 2019, signing a five-year deal set to expire in 2025.
