Newcastle United has expressed newfound interest in acquiring Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, who has had an impressive start to the Bundesliga season.
Reports from The Sun confirm that Newcastle is eyeing Victor Boniface as a potential addition to their squad, with scouts already observing his performance for Nigeria in recent matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.
Newcastle currently boasts two excellent strikers, Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, competing for Premier League starting positions. Nonetheless, Eddie Howe, the team’s manager, is contemplating another option for the 2024 season, considering Wilson’s approaching 32nd birthday and the need to maintain a strong squad.
Victor Boniface is now on Newcastle’s radar, just a few months after his move from Union Saint-Gilloise to Leverkusen. The 6ft 3in striker initially gained recognition in Nigeria with Real Sapphire before moving to Norway with Bodo/Glimt in 2019. He exhibited significant potential in Norway, scoring 23 goals in 66 games, which led to a transfer to Union Saint-Gilloise in 2022. His impressive form continued there, with 17 goals in 51 games, ultimately capturing the attention of Leverkusen, who signed him for around £17.5 million in July.
Surprisingly, Boniface has quickly adapted to German football, amassing seven goals in just seven Bundesliga games. At just 22 years old, he is already making a significant impact and is considered a ‘complete’ striker by his manager, Xabi Alonso. His rapid rise to prominence suggests that his price tag is likely to increase, making Newcastle’s interest in him quite timely.
