The most recent news regarding Birmingham City, as reported by BirminghamLive, involves Wayne Rooney’s response to rumors about his salary at St Andrew’s. Rooney strongly refuted claims that he is making £1.5 million annually with Birmingham City.
Reports surfaced last week indicating that the 37-year-old Rooney would be earning approximately £29,000 per week at the club. This amount is said to be three times what his predecessor, John Eustace, was earning during his time at St Andrew’s.
However, Rooney, who is about to manage his first game against Middlesbrough this Saturday, has vehemently denied these reports. The new Birmingham City manager emphasized that his primary focus was on building a comprehensive backroom team rather than negotiating for a higher salary with the club’s leadership.
Rooney responded to these reports by saying, “Sometimes it’s not always the truth, which we have seen many times. And that certainly is not the truth regarding the salary, but also in terms of my presence at this football club. As I mentioned last week, I was genuinely impressed with the direction in which the club is heading. It aligns with where I see myself in my career and how I aim to progress. My primary objective is to guide Birmingham City back to the Premier League.”
He further clarified, “In fact, money didn’t even enter my thoughts during contract negotiations. There are certain things you request, such as coaches or improvements to the training facilities. These are the things you consider, but money wasn’t a primary concern for me.”
