Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt has openly admitted to having a conversation with Brighton’s German midfielder, Pascal Groß, to gather insights about Newcastle United before their upcoming Champions League match this week. Brighton is one of the few teams that have managed to defeat Eddie Howe’s Newcastle this season, and that 3-1 defeat at the Amex was the only game where the Magpies appeared outclassed. Since that defeat, Newcastle has remained unbeaten in the Premier League, the League Cup, and the Champions League, with their 4-1 win over PSG being the most significant highlight since returning to European competition.

Dortmund aims to perform better than AC Milan and PSG, as they seek to leave St. James’ Park with three crucial points to keep their qualification hopes alive. Coach Edin Terzic, who spent two years at West Ham United alongside Slaven Bilic, praised Newcastle’s smart transfers and Howe’s coaching abilities, which he still appreciates from his time in England.

Julian Brandt sought information about Newcastle through unofficial means, reaching out to his fellow German international, Pascal Groß, who had faced Newcastle in the Premier League. Groß shared insights while on the USA Tour with the German national team, indicating that a positive atmosphere awaits Dortmund at St. James’ Park, which differs from facing teams like Manchester City or Chelsea.

Brandt emphasized the need for confidence despite their good performance against PSG and the unpredictable nature of their group. He stressed the importance of securing a victory.

Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel echoed the sentiment, highlighting the necessity of getting points as they have only earned one point from two matches.

Although Dortmund remains undefeated in the Bundesliga this season, they have struggled to accumulate points in their challenging Champions League group. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl hopes the team can change their fortunes and stressed the importance of gaining points in head-to-head matches to maintain their chances of progressing.

Felix Nmecha, a summer signing for Dortmund, expressed readiness and belief in their ability to achieve their goals.
