Newcastle considering three January moves as Toon hold recruitment talks

Following Sandro Tonali’s 10-month suspension, The Telegraph has published an article outlining the club’s January transfer plans. According to Luke Edwards, recruitment discussions have already occurred in response to the news of Tonali’s impending ban, and Newcastle United’s leadership has determined that they will need to acquire a midfielder, preferably on loan, in the new year.

The Telegraph has reported that several players are being considered for this role ahead of the winter transfer window. These options include Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, Al-Hilal’s Ruben Neves, and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.

It is believed that Kalvin Phillips is interested in a move to St. James’ Park. However, it remains uncertain whether Manchester City would assist a potential rival by agreeing to a loan deal if other Premier League clubs are willing to make a permanent transfer offer for the 27-year-old.

Regarding Ruben Neves, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player could find a route back to the Premier League if Al-Hilal agrees to a temporary move. Both clubs are predominantly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and a deal could be feasible if it aligns with the Premier League’s fair market value regulations. This would be similar to Allan Saint-Maximin’s move to Al Ahli during the summer. However, it is unclear whether those seeking to strengthen the Saudi Pro League would allow their new midfielder to join Newcastle for the remainder of the season, as it might contradict their efforts to establish the league as a serious division.

Finally, Scott McTominay was reportedly considered by Eddie Howe over the summer, but Manchester United’s asking price deterred Newcastle and other Premier League clubs. It is expected that the Red Devils’ demands will continue to be a significant obstacle in January, with a loan deal even more unlikely due to their reluctance to assist a rival.
