Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has shared how he used footage of an Ollie Watkins goal to inspire his team to a 2-0 victory over Birmingham City. The goal in question was scored by Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, who has been in excellent form recently, netting six goals in his last six games for both club and country. One of his standout goals was against West Ham, where he struck a powerful shot inside the near post.
Rosenior used this goal as an example for his players, who had been hesitant to take shots in previous matches. He explained that after their game against Southampton, where players often hesitated to shoot and instead tried intricate moves, he showed them Watkins’ goal as a reminder of the effectiveness of a straightforward, powerful shot.
As a result of this coaching, Jaden Philogene, a Hull City player who joined from Aston Villa in the summer, emulated Watkins’ approach in the match against Birmingham. Philogene took a shot from long range, beating the Birmingham goalkeeper John Ruddy from 25 yards, and sealed a 2-0 victory in Wayne Rooney’s first home game as Birmingham’s manager. This goal marked Philogene’s second for the club.
Rosenior expressed his admiration for Philogene’s talent and mentioned that there is still room for development in the young player. He praised Philogene’s ability to take shots and hit them effectively, and he is excited about the player’s potential for growth.
