West Ham to sign Nottingham Forest's Brilliant Star to replace Lucas Paqueta with £45m interest

West Ham have an interest in Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson as they look at options in the event of Lucas Paquetá leaving the club.

Paquetá has been subject of an approach from Manchester City and while the clubs have not agreed on a fee, there is a prospect of the Brazilian playmaker going in a deal worth, eventually, more than £80 million.

Moyes has seen Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca depart for Atalanta and has Johnson, 22, firmly in his sights as a player who would add quality across his frontline.

The Wales international has been subject of a failed bid by Brentford earlier in the summer, worth around £35 million, and it is thought a package of £45 million in total could persuade Forest to cash in on the player who reached double figures for goals in his first Premier League season.

Johnson has also been on Tottenham’s radar as they regroup following Harry Kane’s sale to Bayern Munich last week.

Moyes started the season with Michail Antonio leading his attack, supported by Jarrod Bowen and Saïd Benrahma. Antonio has been subject of interest this summer including from Saudi Arabia.

Johnson has three years left on his contract so Forest can maximise his price as there is no danger of a Bosman move. Should he leave he will break the Forest record for a transfer fee received, which was set in 2017-18 when Britt Assombalonga was sold to Middlesbrough for around £15 million.

West Ham are still trying to land Harry Maguire from Manchester United after seeing a fee agreed for the England centre-back. The player terms of the transfer have yet to be sorted ahead of a £30 million deal. Moyes has already landed James Ward-Prowse this week from Southampton and Edson Alvarez has arrived as a direct replacement for Declan Rice.
