Liverpool reportedly want to sign Joao Palhinha more than any other midfielder out there in the transfer market.
According to the Daily Mail, the 28-year-old Fulham star has emerged as potentially Liverpool’s new favoured target having missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.
Palhinha only joined Fulham last season yet has since established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, with the Portuguese international making the most tackles out of any player in the division.
Whilst Palhinha is currently out through injury, interest has been high in the midfielder throughout the summer, with Fulham believed to want as much as £60m for the former Sporting Lisbon star.
And Liverpool could be tempted to pay this fee having missed out on two top targets this week in Caicedo and Lavia, with Palhinha a dream short-term fix for Jurgen Klopp’s midfield issues.
Lauded by Match of the Day commenter Steve Wilson as an ‘outstanding’ midfielder, Palhinha could be worth the £60m investment for Liverpool if it means returning to the UEFA Champions League and challenging for the title.
Liverpool have to disregard Palhinha’s age and price tag
Signing a 28-year-old midfielder to replace the 29-year-old Fabinho might seem like an odd strategy for a club like Liverpool, yet given what the Reds need, there’s few players out there in the market as good as Palhinha.
The Fulham star has already made the Premier League look easy based off his performances and stats from last season, and Palhinha could be sold on a move to Liverpool this window if an offer was to be made.
£60m might be steep for a 28-year-old, but for what Liverpool need, Palhinha is a dream signing for the Reds this window.
