West Brom look to sign sought-after EFL ‘Assist King’ as January approaches

West Brom is reportedly considering a move for Kwame Poku, the Peterborough United attacker, in the upcoming January transfer window, as per TEAMtalk. The League One “assist king” is drawing interest from various clubs, including West Brom, and could be a potential target for the Baggies in the New Year. Poku, 22, has showcased versatility by playing centrally or on either flank, and his impressive performances in the third tier this season, contributing six goals and six assists, have heightened his appeal.

Despite the inherent risk of signing a player from a lower league, Poku’s current form suggests he may be prepared for the step up to a higher level. Several Championship clubs, including Sunderland, Ipswich, Stoke, and Millwall, are also expressing interest. West Brom, having successfully signed Brandon Thomas-Asante from the fourth tier in the previous season, may be inclined to explore such opportunities again.

While Poku’s asking price remains undisclosed, the competition from numerous Championship clubs could potentially drive it higher. West Brom’s ability to compete for signings of this caliber in the winter window may hinge on developments surrounding a possible takeover. The acquisition of Poku and other targets might be influenced by progress in ownership changes, but there’s no assurance that any such transition will be completed in time.

In the absence of a swift change in ownership, West Brom’s manager, Carlos Corberan, may need to rely on the return of injured players within his current squad to strengthen the team’s prospects. The goal is to sustain a strong push for a playoff spot by the end of the season at The Hawthorns.
