The organization has said that it has submitted the necessary documentation to improve its academy status and bring back the younger age groups that were eliminated in 2017.
The Terriers have acknowledged that they have submitted an official application to the EFL to improve their academy from its present category four classification to a category three, which would allow them to reinstate all age groups from under 9s to under 16s.
In order to concentrate their efforts more clearly on developing players from under-17s level and up, Huddersfield Town purposefully downgraded themselves to category four in 2017. This includes putting in a new open-age B squad in place of the customary under-23s side.
The B team setup produced summer sales Etienne Camara and Nicholas Bilokapic, as well as current first-teamers Brahima Diarra, Jaheim Headley, and Rarmani Edmonds-Green. However, new owner Kevin Nagle has made it clear since taking ownership of the team that he wants to reinstate those younger age groups.
This implies that for the remainder of the season, the club will be subject to a routine examination by the Professional Game Academy examination Company. If achieved, Town would be classified as category three starting in 2024–2025.
Jake Edwards, the chief executive of the Town, said in a statement released by the club: “This is a vital first step towards our ambitions. The future of the club’s academy has been firmly at the top of the priority list for our new owner, Kevin Nagle, even before his purchase of the club was finalized in the summer.
“The board feels that the academy’s expansion is crucial for the team’s player development and community involvement. The best components of the B Team player development model will be used to develop players at lower age levels, which will no doubt thrill parents of aspiring football players throughout our region.
“Despite the difficulty of this process, we are committed to offering the tools necessary to make it happen. In order to achieve our long-term goals for the club, this is a crucial first step. As this process progresses, we’ll do our best to keep our supporters informed.
