On Wednesday, the Detroit Lions revealed that Jonah Jackson, a former Pro Bowl guard, won’t be available for the Thanksgiving game against Green Bay. Jackson has been absent from four of the last five games due to injuries, initially an ankle issue and more recently a wrist problem.
In response to Jackson’s absence, Sorsdal, a fifth-round pick from William & Mary, had to step in unexpectedly for the game against Chicago over the weekend. While he faced some challenges early on, he ultimately performed well, allowing only four pressures and no sacks on 40 pass blocks.
Head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged the mixed performance, stating, “Yeah, look, some good and then some that wasn’t as good as you would like.” However, Campbell expressed confidence in Sorsdal’s ability, emphasizing that the rookie handled the pressure effectively. Campbell praised the entire offensive unit for executing at a high level in the final minutes of the game. Despite the challenges, he sees Sorsdal’s performance as a positive foundation to build upon, expecting improvement with more playing time.
In response to the injuries, the Lions promoted defensive lineman Quinton Bohanna and offensive lineman Michael Schofield from the practice squad. However, there were no additional updates on the injury front for the Lions.
Meanwhile, the Packers faced more significant challenges on the injury front. Running back Aaron Jones (knee) and safety Darnell Savage (calf) were ruled out, with tight end Luke Musgrave and running back Emanuel Wilson moved to injured reserve. Tight end Josiah Deguara (hip) is doubtful, and several key players, including cornerback Jaire Alexander (shoulder), linebacker De’Vondre Campbell (neck), running back AJ Dillon (groin), safety Rudy Ford (biceps), and receiver Dontayvion Wicks (concussion/knee), are questionable.
To address these injuries, the Packers signed receiver Bo Melton and running back James Robinson from their practice squad, in addition to promoting fullback Henry Pearson and safety Benny Sapp III from the practice squad.
