Would veteran guard Free Agent Fill A Hole In The Miami Heat’s Roster?

Former Washington Wizards All-Star guard John Wall is a possible Miami Heat signing. The Miami Heat’s lack of depth in the backcourt has been one of their disadvantages this season. Despite this, Miami is 10-5 heading into Friday’s game against the New York Knicks.

A senior guard in free agency may be a viable solution to this situation. Veteran John Wall should be on the top of Miami’s list of targets.

Wall was most recently with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he averaged 11.4 points and 5.2 assists on 40.8 percent shooting in 34 games. He was dealt to the Houston Rockets in February. Soon later, Houston released the former All-Star.

No DC reunion? John Wall's contract bought out by Rockets, but all signs point toward LA | WJLA

Wall was one of the league’s most dynamic players during his prime with the Washington Wizards. He was a five-time All-Star, averaging 23.1 points per game in his greatest season.

Playmaking and scrappiness are not issues for point guards Kyle Lowry and Dru Smith. Rather, the pair is lacking in offensive explosiveness.

Although Wall lacks the athleticism of his previous self, he has the potential to contribute to Miami’s system. Off the bench, Wall’s finishing and excellent defense are vital elements in the final stretch. Not to mention that the Heat would most likely sign him to a one-year deal.

However, Kyle Lowry’s 28-point performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers has shifted the focus away from the backcourt. However, if their problems persist, Miami should consider signing the former All-Star guard.
