Newcastle United certainly returned to form on Saturday, thrashing Chelsea at St James’ Park, ramping up the intensity in the second half after a tight opening 45 minutes. Even despite an injury crisis that recently claimed Joe Willock as its latest victim, Newcastle had enough to put a team that has recently beaten Tottenham and drawn with Manchester City to shame.

Vinicius Jr replies to Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes’ performance against Chelsea
Guimaraes took to Instagram after the game to caption a montage of himself in action on Tyneside: “I’m having a great time at this club!” Great victory and a want for more.”

Real Madrid and Brazil star Vinicius Jr answered with three fire emojis, clearly impressed with his compatriot’s performance.

Bruno Guimaraes: How did Newcastle’s star perform against Chelsea?
The 26-year-old was having a fantastic day in the center of the park.

According to WhoScored data, he had the most dribbles of any Newcastle player (4), drew three fouls (tied for second), and contributed three tackles (tied for second with Kieran Trippier).

His passing radar was also on point, as he hit the target with seven of his ten attempted long balls and his only tried through ball.

A very composed display from Guimaraes, who more than deserves his praise.

Paris Saint-Germain await on Tuesday and Newcastle need the Brazil star firing at his very best if they’re going to turn things around in the dreaded Group of Death.

More outings like these and his team certainly have a better chance.
