West Brom must deny the inevitable after Jamie Vardy’s revelation

West Brom is set to host Jamie Vardy and Leicester City at The Hawthorns this Saturday, marking Vardy’s remarkable record at B71. On April 11, 2015, during a tribute to Jeff Astle, Vardy disrupted the event by scoring in stoppage time, breaking West Bromwich Albion’s hearts while boosting Leicester City’s Great Escape.

Fast forward to Halloween of the same year, Leicester, having secured their place in the top flight, engaged in an unexpected title race. Vardy and Riyad Mahrez played a significant role, leading to Albion’s 3-2 loss on their home turf.

In April 2017, under Tony Pulis, Albion faced a losing streak at The Hawthorns. Vardy struck in stoppage time, earning Leicester a 1-0 victory and further fueling resentment from Albion fans.

March 2018 witnessed another defeat for Albion, now under Alan Pardew, as Leicester dominated with a 4-1 win. Vardy’s exceptional goal canceled out Salomon Rondon’s opener.

The opening game of the 2020 season saw Albion’s struggles against Leicester, with Vardy netting twice from the penalty spot in an empty stadium.

Despite a two-year hiatus due to Albion’s Championship stint, Vardy returns for a highly anticipated clash. At 37, he may not be at his prime, but his seven goals this season attest to his continued prowess.

In a recent interview, Vardy expressed his affinity for scoring at The Hawthorns, citing the passionate response from fans. Despite Albion’s solid defensive record, Vardy aims to add to his goal tally, but with the recent form of players like Cedric Kipre, Kyle Bartley, and Alex Palmer, West Brom hopes to secure their first goalless encounter with Vardy at B71.
