Ferrari chairman John Elkann has provided a significant update on the futures of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, stating that they will undoubtedly continue with Ferrari beyond the upcoming season.
Despite speculation about Leclerc and Sainz potentially exploring other opportunities when their contracts expire at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season, Elkann emphasized their long-term commitment to the team. Prior to the contract renewals of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at Mercedes, there were rumors linking Leclerc to the German team. Meanwhile, Sainz was rumored to be considering a move to Audi in 2026, with suggestions of a potential transition to Sauber a year earlier.
During Exor’s Investor Day, Elkann asserted that both Leclerc and Sainz would remain with Ferrari. He acknowledged the disappointment of Ferrari’s recent season but highlighted the positive aspects, such as competitive performances in the championship’s latter stages. Elkann emphasized the need to capitalize on the team’s numerous pole positions and convert them into victories in future championships.
Despite Elkann’s confidence in their continued partnership with Ferrari, Sainz had previously expressed frustration with the team after the 2023 F1 season and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Despite the disappointment, Leclerc affirmed his dedication to completing the mission with Ferrari, expressing his unique connection to the team and his dream of winning a world championship with them.
