Newcastle defender Harrison Ashby has returned to the North East due to an injury sustained during his loan spell at Swansea. The Chronicle reports that it’s uncertain whether Newcastle will recall him from his loan in Wales to seek a new move in January or if he’ll return to Swansea after receiving treatment.

Ashby, who joined Newcastle in January with aspirations of becoming a potential successor to Kieran Trippier, has made 11 appearances for the Championship squad.

However, his recent playing time was interrupted by a hamstring injury, and his progress is being compared to the impressive form of Tino Livramento.

Swans boss Michael Duff confirmed Ashby’s return to Newcastle and mentioned ongoing discussions between the two clubs regarding the injury: “I don’t know the exact diagnosis, but the two clubs are in communication.

He’s back at Newcastle for now, and they want to further investigate the nature of the injury. From my perspective, he won’t be available for the next two or three weeks, and we’ll have a clearer picture after the investigation.”
