Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Jay Glover has concluded his loan stint at Spennymoor Town, according to an announcement by the non-league club. The 20-year-old was granted permission by Sheffield Wednesday to join the National League North side last month to gain additional first-team experience.
During his time at Spennymoor, Glover made five league appearances, contributing to his development by featuring in both central midfield and the right flank. The loan club has now officially stated that he has returned to Hillsborough and will not be going back to the North East for a second loan spell.
This development leaves Sheffield Wednesday with a decision to make regarding Glover’s next steps. It is suggested that another temporary loan arrangement would be more beneficial for him than returning to youth football. Currently, his prospects of breaking into the senior team seem limited due to the existing options in his position, managed by Danny Rohl.
Glover has been associated with Sheffield Wednesday throughout his entire career, joining the club at the age of 14 and progressing through their academy ranks. Having been a consistent presence at various youth levels for the Championship side, he earned his first professional contract in 2021.
The midfielder made his debut for Sheffield Wednesday in August of the same year during a Carabao Cup match against Rochdale. Following the club’s promotion from League One after a dramatic playoff final win over Barnsley at Wembley, he was offered a new contract at the end of the last season.
