Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ defeat to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared a somewhat uncomfortable parting message with his rival Josh Allen. The Bills secured a 20-17 victory at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, marking the Chiefs’ fifth loss of the season and their fourth in the last six games.
In the final minute of the game, Mahomes expressed frustration over a late offensive offsides penalty against Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney. With Kansas City at 2nd-and-10 near midfield and trailing by three points, Toney’s apparent go-ahead touchdown was nullified by the penalty, leading to a contentious moment on the field (watch video here).

Even after the game, Mahomes, still bothered by the penalty, discussed the call with Allen during their embrace. The reigning MVP criticized the decision, calling it “the wildest call I’ve ever seen—offensive offsides, terrible,” as he vented his frustration to the winning quarterback (profanity edited by LBS).
Both Mahomes and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid continued to express their discontent in their respective press conferences, criticizing the officials for making the crucial offsides call. In terms of performance, Mahomes completed 25 out of 43 passes for 271 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception, while Allen finished 23 out of 42 for 233 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Additionally, Allen rushed for 32 yards and scored 1 touchdown on 10 carries.
With this loss, the Chiefs’ record dropped to 8-5, diminishing their chances of securing the top seed in the AFC. On the other hand, the Bills improved to 7-6, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
