Momo Diaby returns as 21s draw with Blues

While the Owls squad and staff were busy spreading holiday joy in the community on Tuesday afternoon, our Under-21s engaged in their final match of 2023 at Middlewood Road, facing off against Birmingham in a top-of-the-table showdown.

Although both teams took turns leading during the game, it ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw. Momo Diaby, who returned from an injury sustained during his debut in August, played the full 90 minutes at the Owls’ training base.

In this highly competitive Professional Development League encounter, it was the leading team, Birmingham, that faltered first. Blues captain Josh Home lost possession in midfield and paid the price seconds later when Luke Cook nodded home Favour Onukwuli’s powerful shot off the upright.

Despite goals from Junior Dixon and Tommy Fogarty turning the tide for the visitors on either side of halftime, Wednesday managed to level the score at 2-2 in the 63rd minute. Onukwuli’s looping header hit the crossbar, and Gui Siqueira was quick to capitalize on the loose ball, finishing from close range.

The outcome positions the Owls in third place, trailing Birmingham by nine points at the summit. However, Andy Holdsworth’s side has the advantage of two games in hand.
