Danny Rohl has given an update on John Buckley’s injury following his premature exit in Sheffield Wednesday’s victory over QPR. Despite joining the Owls on loan from Blackburn Rovers in the summer, Buckley has struggled for playing time, managing only two starts since Rohl took over as manager in October. While there were earlier speculations about his return to Ewood Park in January, his prospects at Sheffield Wednesday appear dimmer now as he faces a period on the sidelines.

Buckley, who was brought on as a substitute with 20 minutes remaining in the QPR match, had to be replaced with five minutes to go due to a shoulder injury sustained from a robust challenge. Initially uncertain about the duration of his absence, Rohl has now confirmed that Buckley will be unavailable for the “next weeks.”

Speaking to the media ahead of the Cardiff City clash, Rohl stated, “John will be out for the next weeks, that’s for sure. He had an operation today (Thursday), and it doesn’t look good. I called him yesterday in the evening and wished him well, and now we’ll do everything for him to have a quick recovery. When I saw the foul, I noticed immediately his shoulder – I had the same issue when I was younger. It didn’t look well, and I was scared about it, and now we know what it is. But I believe we’ll do everything that we can for him to be back as soon as possible.”

Will John Buckley leave Sheffield Wednesday next month?

John Buckley currently occupies one spot in Sheffield Wednesday’s 25-man squad, but his return to the field may not happen until late January at the earliest.

The 24-year-old has had minimal playing time and has not been featured in eight matches this season. As the January transfer window approaches, Sheffield Wednesday may need to create space for potential new signings. Additionally, if Momo Diaby aims to rejoin the squad, he would have to replace someone.

To bolster the team and avoid relegation, manager Danny Rohl may be eager to bring in new players during the transfer window. This situation could lead to Buckley making an early return to Blackburn Rovers, and players like Ashley Fletcher and Mallik Wilks, who have struggled to make an impact, might face scrutiny as Rohl seeks possible upgrades.
