Taylor Barnard, a promising emerging star, will join McLaren’s Formula E squad as a reserve and development driver.
The 19-year-old British driver shone during his Formula 3 debut season, winning his first race at Spa-Francorchamps last year.
Barnard will participate in Formula Regional with the PHM Aix Racing squad next season, in addition to his backup job in Formula E, allowing him to further his career in a full-time racing environment.
Barnard will race in the totally electric category with Jake Hughes and Sam Bird, who was recently embroiled in a funny social media exchange with former McLaren driver Jenson Button.
McLaren’s new arrival
Young British driver Barnard is set to follow in the footsteps of compatriots Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris by joining the McLaren team as a promising talent, aiming to progress through the ranks and carve out a successful Formula 1 career.
Expressing his elation at the news, Barnard couldn’t contain his excitement, stating in a press release, “I’m super excited and honoured to be joining the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team as a Reserve and Development Driver. Having an opportunity to work with a team such as NEOM McLaren is a great opportunity for my future, and I will be working as hard as I can to support the team and learn as much as possible!”
Ian James, the managing director of the NEOM McLaren Formula E team, welcomed Barnard officially, highlighting the young driver’s impressive skills showcased during his electric racing debut in Valencia last October. James expressed confidence in Barnard’s potential, emphasizing that he would play a crucial role within the team. James anticipates that Barnard will bring value to the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team through his drive and talent, while also gaining valuable experience on his journey.
